Citadel of Cairo, mosques and the pyramids at Giza
The citadel of Cairo was fortified by Salahadin in 1176-1183 for protection from the Crusaders.  It is also known as Mohamed Ali Citadel for the mosque that was built within the walls in the 1800s.

At the Giza pyramids, we rode camels and horses. Mum had an accident, falling off her camel during the dismount, when the camel was startled and stood up suddenly.  However, no major fractures, thanks to her Fosamax, only bumps and bruises on head, elbow, back and legs.  She rested for two days and applied assiduous applications of a wonder Chinese liniment, and was then able to walk, albeit at a slow pace as we continued our vacation .

These are the magnificent pyramids at Giza, from left to right:  Menkaure's pyramid, Pyramid of Kephren, and the Pyramid of Khufu (aka Cheops or the Great Pyramid).   Their size is astonishing!   The three in front are queens' pyramids.   Although the pyramids appear to be in the middle of the Sahara desert, they are at the very edge of Cairo.

These limestone bricks once covered the pyramid.

At the Saqqara complex this outer wall was reconstructed.

Tien was dwarfed by Djoser's step pyramid, the first pyramid ever built, about 27th century BC.
